Belo Horizonte driver reaches Q3, qualifies sixth and finishes both races inside the Top 10 in Curvelo
Sérgio Sette Câmara could hardly have asked for a more special setting for his Stock Car Pro Series debut. The Belo Horizonte-born driver began his first full season in Brazilian motorsport at home in Minas Gerais, at Circuito dos Cristais in Curvelo, and left the opening round with two strong results: seventh in Saturday’s race and tenth in Sunday’s main event.
More than the final positions, the weekend highlighted how quickly Sette Câmara adapted to the Stock Car. In his first competitive outing with the car, he improved session by session and was already running among the leading group.
Sérgio was 11th in the opening practice with a 1:22.308, before making a major step in the second session. He went third fastest in 1:21.142, just 0.125s off the best time.
The progress continued in qualifying. Against a field packed with some of the most experienced and successful drivers in Brazilian and international motorsport, Sette Câmara advanced all the way to Q3 and secured sixth place.
He converted that pace into a seventh-place finish in Saturday’s race and followed it with tenth on Sunday, completing his first Stock Car weekend with two Top-10 results.
“It was a very positive debut, and even more special because it happened in Minas Gerais,” said Sérgio. “I knew there would be a lot to learn with a new car and such a competitive championship, but we improved from the first session, reached Q3 and finished both races inside the Top 10. That gives us a lot of confidence for what comes next.”
Having spent most of his professional career racing abroad in Formula 2, Formula E and endurance competition, Curvelo marked the beginning of a new chapter for Sette Câmara — this time in Brazilian motorsport.
“There is still a lot for me to learn about the car and the way Stock Car races develop, but this was a very good first step. Starting this new phase of my career at home made it even more special,” he added.
