Third in the Sprint and fifth in the main race, the Brazilian delivers another consistent Stock Car weekend
Sérgio Sette Câmara continued his strong rookie season in the Stock Car Pro Series with another standout weekend in Cuiabá. At the fifth round of the championship, the Team Tambasa RC driver claimed third place in the Sprint before charging from 11th to fifth in the main race.
It was Sette Câmara’s second consecutive podium after his runner-up finish in Goiânia.
The weekend required plenty of work. Sérgio was 18th and 24th in the two practice sessions, but improved in qualifying and advanced to Q2, finishing 11th overall.
Under Stock Car regulations, the top 12 from qualifying are reversed for the Sprint grid. That promoted Sérgio to second on the grid for the short race, and he converted the opportunity into third place and another podium.
“It was another very important result for us,” said Sette Câmara. “The weekend started a little more difficult, but we improved the car and made good progress in qualifying. With the reversed grid we started the Sprint from the front row, and it was important to make the most of that opportunity.”
For the main race there was no grid reversal, so Sérgio started 11th. Over 27 laps he moved steadily through the field to finish fifth, gaining six positions and ending just 6.216 seconds behind winner Nelson Piquet Jr.
“In some ways, fifth place in the main race was as important as the podium,” he said. “Coming from 11th to fifth in such a competitive race showed that we have strong race pace and can build good results even when we are not starting from the front rows.”
After five rounds and ten races, Sette Câmara had 383 points and sat fourth in the Drivers’ Championship.
