The 21-year-old Brazilian will compete with the B-Max by Motopark team

Brazilian motorsport received good news today, during this troublesome period that makes us stay at home. After the announcement of his hiring by Red Bull as a reserve and test pilot in the F1, as well as in the FE, for the GEOX Dragon team, this Monday (23) the driver Sérgio Sette Câmara (YOUSE | XP Investimentos | MRV | Energisa | Gasmig | CBMM) announced that he will participate in the 2020 season of the Japanese Super Formula.

He has had a successful history with Team Motopark. In the years 2015 and 2016 he competed with the team in the European Formula 3 Championship. In addition, at the end of 2017, it was with Motopark that he staged one of the most epic battles in the Macau F3 GP.

The change to the Super Formula after three seasons in the F 2 World Championship, gives him the possibility to direct his career towards the car model closest to the levels of the F1 and the F-Indy. “I am confident that this is the best direction for my career,” said Câmara. “Super Formula cars are the fastest racing cars after F1. The teams here work at the highest level and I am sure that I will be able to continue growing and, above all, competing in an environment of the highest performance. I want to thank the B-Max by Motopark team for this opportunity. I’ve worked with them before and I’m sure that we can achieve great results in this Championship too ”, commented the driver.

Ryuji Kumita, owner of B-Max, confirms Sérgio’s words: “We are very happy to have Sérgio on our team in the 2020 Super Formula season. We are fully aware of his qualities and I am confident that we will be able to provide him with everything he needs to succeed in the Championship “.

Timo Rumpfkeil, head of the Motopark team, is responsible for the German equipment that equips B-Max Racing, in addition to providing engineering support since last year. Rumpfkeil adds: “I welcome Sergio back to our team. He needs no introduction for us. Currently he is one of the most complete talents on the market and it is always a great pleasure to work with such a quality driver. There is a strong history between Motopark and Sergio. We gave him his first two seasons in Europe in 2015 and 2016 in Formula 3 and again in Macau in 2017. Our feeling is that he is coming home. A clear advantage since we know him very well and vice versa, as this will allow us to start at a high level from the beginning. We will be able to enjoy the experience and results of the 2019 Super Formula season together, where we, as a team, had a lot to learn and we showed a steep learning curve. The development of the car during the winter went well and we are confident that we are in a good position for the next season ”, concluded the German businessman.

Despite the COVID-19 World Pandemic, in Japan some services continue to function normally, including teams and race tracks. In this way, the Championship pre-season will normally take place in four days. This Tuesday (23) and Wednesday (24), in Fuji and, later, on April 3 and 4, in Suzuka.

The start of the season, however, has yet to be confirmed due to health issues related to the world pandemic. The competition schedule would look like this:

1st Stage – Suzuka (Postponed)
2nd Stage – Fuji (Postponed)
3rd Stage – May 16th and 17th | Autopolis
