In a very fast weekend, the Brazilian driver set the best lap in both races
This Sunday (2) the tenth round of the F2 World Championship ended. In a very exciting weekend, the Brazilian driver Sérgio Sette Câmara (Youse | BMG | MRV | CCR | CEMIG | GASMIG | Usiminas | Americanet | Lubrax), once again, proved to be one of the great drivers of the season and ended the weekend on the podium for the third place in the traditional Italian race.
Sérgio’s weekend started on Friday in the free practice session scheduled for the round. He was very calm and did not take long to set a good lap, placing him in the third position. The practice was about to finish and, in an almost perfect lap, Sette recorded the time of 1’33s810 and took the first place of the session.
Excited about the good performance the driver went on to the qualifying session willing to get the second pole of the season. Having a very consistent pace, Sérgio went to the track in the qualifying session and already in the first set of tyres he recorded the best time. The driver returned to the pits and, with five minutes left, returned to the track with a new set of tyres for the second attempt. The Brazilian, once again, got a very good lap, but by a difference of 54 thousandths of a second, he got the second best mark, which, in any case, guaranteed him a place in the front row of the grid.
He was very concentrated and lined up his car on the grid for Saturday’s race. Unfortunately, however, when leaving for the formation lap, an electronic problem prevented the young Brazilian from setting the “Race Start” configuration in his car, so that the stewards can identify errors in the procedure. As a result of that, after the formation lap, Sergio took his car to the pits, from where he had to leave, behind the whole group. Outraged, but without losing his concentration, the driver set off for the race. Knowing that his car was one of the fastest on the track, Sette did not take long to start his recovery. With extremely fast laps and a great work of the Carlin team in the tracks, the young Brazilian recovered no less than 13 places to pass the finish line in seventh place. In this race Sérgio also guaranteed the fastest lap of the race, which earned him two more points in the Championship standings.
By Saturday’s starting position, Sérgio started Sunday’s race again in second place. After losing a bit of traction when the race was authorized, Sérgio ended up falling to the fifth position in the first lap. Once again, proving his full potential, the driver had another good recovery race. He overtook some of the main opponents of the season and, after the 21 laps, received the flag in the third position. Once again Sette Câmara set the fastest lap of the race, again guaranteeing two more points.
“I’m happy with today’s podium, but I’m sincerely disappointed with the overall result of the weekend. We had a car that turned out very fast since the free practice. I lost the pole for only 54 thousandths of a second and I knew I could get my first victory of the year. Unfortunately the electronic problem made me start out of the pits yesterday. I had fun in the recovery race, but the seventh place gave me far fewer points than I could actually have won. Today, after a slight error in the start, I had to do my best to reach third. I thank the team for the excellent car and we are going to Sochi, for the penultimate battle of the year “, analyzed the miner of 20 years.
