Brazilian driver Sérgio Sette Câmara will team up with Lucas Di Grassi for the Stock Car Pro Series Endurance round, scheduled for September 27 at the Nelson Piquet Circuit in Brasília. Long-time friends, the two shared the Formula E grid for five seasons and head into the event with extensive international experience.
Returning to the calendar after a four-year absence, the two-driver race will last two hours and feature three mandatory pit stops, with each driver completing two stints.
In his rookie Stock Car season, Sette Câmara sits fourth in the championship with 489 points, 33 behind the driver in second place. For the special event, the Belo Horizonte native has chosen one of the most experienced names in Brazilian motorsport. A Formula E World Champion, FIA World Endurance Championship runner-up and former Formula 1 driver, Di Grassi has also previously completed a full season in Stock Car.
“For me, this race will be special for several reasons. One of them is that it will be my first Stock Car endurance race, a type of competition in which I have a lot of experience, so I believe I can contribute a great deal to the team. I’ll also be racing again with RCM, a team I really admire and with which I scored three wins in my debut Stock Car season in 2018. And, of course, sharing the car with Serginho will be a pleasure. Besides being a great friend, he is also a very talented driver whose career I follow closely, and I’m sure he still has many great achievements ahead of him in motorsport. All in all, it’s a package that could not be better,” said the São Paulo-born driver enthusiastically.
Serginho believes that he and Lucas can form one of the strongest pairings on the grid.
“I’m very excited to announce Lucas as my teammate for the first Stock Car Endurance race. He has already competed in the championship, in fact with our own team, Tambasa RC Team, and everyone spoke very highly of him when I mentioned his name. He also became a close friend after five seasons in which we raced together in the FIA Formula E World Championship. I have enormous respect for his career, which includes the Formula E title in 2016, Formula 1 experience and a very successful career in the WEC. Despite spending so many years racing on the same tracks, we have never had the opportunity to be teammates. I’m sure we will learn a lot from each other and I believe we have every chance of fighting for a strong result in this race,” concluded the 28-year-old driver.
