The eighth round of the European F3 Championship ended this Sunday (2). In the distant city of Spielberg, in Austria, the Brazilian pilot Sérgio Sette Câmara (Banco Mercantil do Brasil | Lalubema), from Belo Horizonte, shows again his impressive development in the competition and, doing well since the free training sessions, he scored again in the Championship.
The triple round began also on Friday when the preparation training took place. In two free sessions, the pilot managed to get all the development achieved by him and the Motopark Academy team into the track, at the team’s headquarter. Therefore, with a well-adjusted car, Serginho, his engineers and mechanics aimed to change small details of the adjustments, in search of conquering even shorter timings.
By Friday evening, the two time trails that defined the departure grid took place for the round’s races. With the mark of 1m24s899, Serginho earned the right of leaving the sixth position to the first race and, in the second qualification, he was even faster. The 1m24s884 mark guaranteed him the fourth position for the second race of the weekend and 1m24s942 guaranteed him the third place for the race this Sunday.
“We are very excited about we may conquer this weekend. Our car did really well since the beginning of the training, and thanks to that, I had the confidence to speed up and achieve these timings. Here at RedBull we have our best positions of the year’s departure and I want to effectively turn them into the best results of the year” commented the pilot after two qualification sessions.
The first race of the weekend was disputed on Saturday morning. With a bright sun and a temperature around 25 degrees, the departure was authorized. Serginho, having a good departure, remained in the sixth position. In the first laps, even under pressure, the #23 car of Motopark did really well. At the eighth lap, however, he could no longer stop his adversaries and lost some positions, falling into ninth. In this position, with the same edge as before, Sette Câmara managed to stay until the end of the race and returned to the score table.
In the second race of the round, departing from the second line, Sette Câmara had a great departure and took on the leaders. With three laps, the first five pilots had already got some distance from the rest of the squad and Serginho was already aiming at the third position. However, at this point, the team informed him about a penalty for departing too soon, which lead him to make a slow passage by the pits. With no other option at that moment, Serginho complied his penalty and returned to the track in the 29th position. Determined to keep his speed, the pilot had a beautiful recovery race, overtook ten contestants and, after 24 laps, received the flag in the 19th position.
This Sunday was the last race of the round. Different from the two first days, the climate changed radically and there was plenty of rain that delayed the departure of the race for more than two hours. Serginho, in the third position of the grid, kept his focus intact until the moment to departure. With the safety car on track, the departure was authorized and four whole laps were completed, until the race was interrupted with a red flag. With plenty of water in the circuit, the cars were aquaplaning. About twenty minutes later, the re-departure was cleared with the same safety car. Another two laps, and with no conditions to move forward, the race was closed, being worth half of the previewed score. Thus, in the third position, Sérgio Sette Câmara was back on the podium and celebrated his second trophy in the debut season of the European F3.
“I’m so happy that I conquered this third place. It was somewhat unpleasant due to the conditions of the race, but to us it’s a reward for the work we’ve done here in Austria since the first training. I thank my sponsors, my family and all of those who support me. We keep going forward and I hope to come back to this place in the last three rounds of the year, maybe a few steps higher” playfully said the 17 year-old pilot from Minas.
