Adjustment problems and a hit jeopardized the participation of the Brazilian in Hungary

This weekend, between July 28th and 30th, the F2 World Championship arrived in Hungary. On the outskirts of Budapest, the Hungaroring racetrack received the drivers and teams for the seventh double round of the year.

The only Brazilian representative on the last step before F1, the driver from Minas Gerais, Sérgio Sette Câmara (ACER | CCR | SANEPAV | TAESA | CEMIG | BELL) struggled in Hungary.

Going through his first season in F2, Sette Câmara had an advantage in this race, he was already familiar with the circuit. He had already competed there twice in F3 which certainly gave him a better chance of adaptation.

On Friday, the drivers had the only free practice session and the qualifiers. Even with the efforts and commitment of the MP Motorsport team, they could not find a good adjustment for the car #14, and with that, Sette managed to get only the 18th time in the session that defined the starting grid of the first race.

The first race took place late Saturday morning. Sergio, after a good start, managed to gain two positions and went on for more. With the car a little more stable he managed to overtake some opponents even with the difficulties found when overtaking in the Hungarian track. In one of the most exciting moments of the race, he had a strong duel with Alexander Albon who, after overtaking Sergio at the end of the pit straight, saw the Brazilian regain his position in a bold maneuver. After the pit stop, however, Sérgio’s car lost a bit of performance and, with that, he finished the race in 16th place.

In the second race of the weekend, with medium compound tires, Sérgio did what he could. At the start of the race, after a good start again, he won two positions. With the great difficulty to overtake in this track, the Brazilian still pressured some opponents in the first half of the race. But as the race continued, the car started to fishtail and consequently, Sette Câmara lost a lot of time. At the end of the 28 laps, he received the finishing flag in the 13th place.

“We had a very difficult weekend here in Hungary. At no time did I have a competitive car and, no matter how much the team worked on it, the results did not appear. Both here and in England we could not be quick and this really makes any pilot frustrated. Otherwise, we are also having a chronic brake problem which further worsens the situation. We will now have a three-week break without races and I really hope that the team can find a good solution to get back to having a reliable and, above all, a competitive car “, analyzed the ACER pilot | CCR | SANEPAV | TAESA | CEMIG | BELL.
