The Brazilian from the ERT team stood out on the streets of Diriyah in Saudi Arabia
After the stop in Mexico two weeks ago, the Formula E World Championship arrived in Saudi Arabia this weekend. In Diriyah, the machines of the planet’s main electric car series will compete in the races valid for the second and third stages of the Championship on Friday and Saturday.
In his fourth full season in the category, competing for the English team ERT Formula E Team, Brazilian driver Sérgio Sette Câmara showcased his talent once again. Despite having one of the smallest structures in the World Championship, the young driver from Belo Horizonte managed to take his car to the duel phase in the qualifying session. He won the first encounter against German driver Maximilian Gunther (Maserati) and will start from the fourth position in today’s afternoon race.
Sette Câmara holds a special affection for the Saudi track, where in 2021, he achieved his best classification in a Formula E race. Every time he has been there, he has overcome equipment challenges to secure top positions.
The Diriyah track is 2,495 meters long with medium/high-speed characteristics. With some of the season’s most technical sections, the track is one of the most demanding for drivers and naturally wears down both them and the equipment. The layout is clockwise and features 21 corners intertwined with two long straights. Each of the two races scheduled for the weekend will last for 39 laps.
The official schedule began yesterday evening with the first free practice, where Sérgio achieved his first highlight, securing the fifth position. In the second free practice held this morning, Sette and the ERT team opted for a race simulation, using only 300 Kw power, and car #3 finished the session in 17th place.
During the qualifying session, in the first part, divided into groups of 11 competitors, Sette Câmara was the second-best with a time of 1m12s897. He advanced to the duel phase and won the first confrontation against Maximilian Gunther with a time of 1m12s495. In the Semi-Final duel, however, Sérgio was surpassed by Jean Eric Vergne. Nevertheless, with the previous result, he secured the fourth position for today’s race.
“I feel very good in the car. I like this track, and the team has done an excellent job so far. After the disappointment of not even being able to start in Mexico, being among the first on the grid certainly renews the energy. I will work hard to bring a good result home,” said the 25-year-old driver.
The race will start at two in the afternoon this Friday and will be broadcast live on BandSports and YouTube channels Grande Prêmio and Goat.
Tomorrow’s schedule repeats what was seen today with free practice at seven in the morning, qualifying at 9:20 am, and the race at 2 pm.
