In the eighth round of the F2 World Championship, the Brazilian driver had a good recovery right there on the racetrack

The eighth double round of the F2 World Championship ended on Sunday (4). The competition was held at the Hungaroring Race Track outside Budapest (Hungary) and featured the Brazilian Sérgio Sette Câmara (YOUSE | BMG | MRV | CCR | CBMM | CEMIG | GASMIG | COPASA) finishing today’s race on the podium in third.

Sette’s weekend started off quite hard. On Friday morning, after getting the seventh position in the free practice, the driver and the DAMS team continued to look for a better setup for the # 5 car for the upcoming qualifying session. A few minutes before time-out, however, heavy rain hit the racetrack area, so the French team opted for different adjustments for their two cars. One for a wetter track and another for a drier one. In this bet, Sergio’s car ended up not showing a good performance and, with that, he only got the13th place on the grid for the first race.

Disappointed, but aware of DAMS’s excellent racing car, Sergio arrived for the Saturday race ready to recover. With dry track and firm weather, the young Brazilian had a really thrilling race. With bold overtakes and perfect teamwork at the pit stop,  Sette Câmara gained eight positions throughout the race and, at the end of the 37 laps, received the checkered flag of the first race in fifth place. “It was a pretty cool race. The car was fast and my only option was to go forward. Trying to manage tyre wear, but having to attack, I was able to keep the car fairly stable throughout the race and on the final laps I could tell I had a much more balanced set,” commented the 21-year-old.

THE PODIUM CAME AS A REWARD FOR A GREAT WEEKEND

Early this Sunday morning, 20 cars lined up for the Sprint Race, a 28-lap race that ended the weekend’s schedule. Sette, starting from the fourth place because of his final position yesterday, wanted to get as many points as possible.

After a good start, he soon jumped into the third position and, in the first turn, came side by side with the second place, but had to brake to avoid a hit. In a race where it is not mandatory to pit, Sérgio always remained in the direct fight for the lead. However, with the first four cars showing very close performance, Sette was concerned throughout the race to attack and not to be overtaken. With 20 laps completed, at turn one, he jumped to second place, but delayed braking too much and was unable to find proper traction at the exit of the turn, thus losing the position. With the tyres very worn out, Sergio ended up steady in third place and, under pressure, received the final flag in third. Mick Schumacher, son of the F1 seven-time world champion, was the winner of the race.

“Literally we were able to squeeze all the juice out of the lemon we had in our hands and made a good lemonade. I got a good start today, jumped to third place and spent the whole race trying to get the second position. I finished third today and added 20 points over the weekend. Not bad for someone who started 13th in the first race. Of course, I would have liked to fight for the victory, but I have to admit that the result was very good compared to what we had ”, concluded the driver.
