After more than 60 days away from the tracks the teams and drivers of the F2 World Championship are back at a racetrack. On the traditional Jerez de la Frontera racetrack in Spain is where the first three days of pre-season will be held.
In a season that will be shared between the F1 tests with McLaren team and the F2 Championship, Sérgio Sette Câmara (YOUSE | BMG | MRV | CCR | CBMM | CEMIG | GASMIG | COPASA) could not wait to accelerate again.
Hired by the French team DAMS, third place in the 2018 Championship of drivers and teams, the 20-year-old Brazilian started his activities in mid-January. Together with the engineers and technicians of the Le Mans-based team, Sette got to know all the working methods of his new team. In addition, in the modern DAMS simulator, he completed almost ten days of work trying to make adjustments in various tracks of the Championship.
JEREZ – ONE OF THE BEST TRACKS IN THE WORLD
The organization of the Championship determined that the teams would have six days of pre-season to reach the final and definitive preparation for the teams before the first stage of the F2 World Championship in Bahrain on March 29 and 31.
This week, between February 26 and 28, the cars will take to the track in Jerez de la Frontera. Next week, in the middle of Carnival, the Circuit de Barcelona will host the tests. Jerez is one of the world’s favorite tracks for testing. Its 4,428-meter track was inaugurated in 1986 and has hosted the F1 races for several years. Its 13 curves contemplate the most diverse sharpness and conditions of adhesion making it ideal for the adjustment of the cars. In addition, due to the privileged geographical location, the track has good weather almost all year round.
“I can not hide my anxiety about racing again. After the Abu-Dhabi test in December, I trained with DAMS, and after that I didn’t go back to a racetrack. I have worked very hard with them and we will certainly have very intense days here in Spain. They will definitely be useful days and will help us a lot in the adjustments for the whole season “, explained the Brazilian.
