The Brazilian showed his potential getting the second best mark in the qualifying sessions of the season for the GEOX Dragon
Continuing with the intense racing schedule that closes the FE World Championship, the Tempelhof circuit, in Berlin – Germany, received on Saturday and Sunday the eighth and ninth stages of the competition. Unlike the races on Wednesday and Thursday, the disputes of the weekend used the track in its counterclockwise direction, thus bringing different challenges for the drivers and teams.
Experiencing his first experiences in the world electric car category, the Brazilian Sérgio Sette Câmara showed a quick adaptation to the completely different driving and competition system of the category. In the free practice of the eighth stage, held on Saturday morning, the young Brazilian achieved the seventh mark with less than three tenths away from the fastest on the track. Excited with the performance, the driver went on to the qualifying session and, in a good lap, secured the 11th position on the starting grid for the eighth stage race. In this race, after a good start, the driver managed to stay in his original position on the first lap. In the following ones, in the disputes for the intermediate positions of the group, he lost two positions until, on the eighth lap, he ended up in an incident with the drivers James Calado and Neel Jani forcing him to abandon the race.
The GEOX Dragon team had a lot of work to repair the car, but on Sunday morning everything was again ready for the Brazilian to accelerate in the ninth stage of the Championship. Even with a car that didn’t have a good balance Sérgio managed to set the 15th time in the free practice. He worked a little more with the engineers and went on to the qualifying session. At this point, however, when directed to the session, the team ended up dropping # 6 car amid intense traffic. Thus, during his launched lap, Sette Câmara ended up having to overtake two competitors, lost a lot of time and stayed only with the last place on the grid. In this race, not having much to lose since he would start at the end of the grid, Sérgio tried to stay on the track all the time and, whenever he had the chance, he moved up. At the end of his 45 minutes of race, he received the flag in the 21st position. This event also defined the champion of the season for the Portuguese Antônio Felix da Costa, a friend of Sérgio’s, who received the flag in the second position.
The tenth and 11th stages of the FE World Championship will be held on a completely new circuit, also using the premises of the former Tempelhof airport, in Berlin – Germany, this Wednesday and Thursday, August 12 and 13.
“After yesterday getting the second best mark in the qualifiers of the season for the team, I expected to do well again this Sunday. Unfortunately, however, I got on the track for my quick return through traffic, and besides, the car was not doing as well as it was on Saturday. I did what was possible in the race. We now have two full days to calmly analyze the data and seek a better set up for the last two races. I believe in the potential of everyone I am working with and that each one of us wants to go beyond our expectations. Our challenge will be a new layout for all drivers and, thus, I believe that we will be able to fight for positions a little further ahead ”, analyzed the representative of GEOX Dragon.
