Ninth and tenth rounds of the World Championship to be held this weekend in Berlin
The Tempelhof Airport in Berlin, Germany, will once again host the Formula E World Championship this weekend. The venue, which has been home to the competition since the second season, will host another double round with races that will count for the ninth and tenth stages of the championship.
Coming off a season of growth, Brazilian driver Sérgio Sette Câmara of the ERT Formula E team is excited for the action in Germany. In recent races, the performance of his team’s cars has improved considerably compared to the beginning of the year and, as a result, the expectations are naturally to repeat the good results achieved in Italy and Japan.
The championship has raced around the iconic Tempelhof Airport on 17 occasions, on different layouts. In addition to hosting the Berlin E-Prix, the venue became the single headquarters of the Championship to hold the last six races in just nine days during the pandemic of 2020. On that occasion, it was also when Sette Câmara made his official debut in the category.
The most recent layout – used in 2023 – was 2.355 meters long and generated an incredible 362 overtakes over the two days – including eight different race leaders, a new record for Formula E. However, for 2024, the circuit has been extended and now the layout is 2.585 meters long with 15 corners and 3 long straights of full throttle acceleration.
Sette Câmara’s goals for this weekend are very clear, based on the sequence of achieving the duel phase in the two last qualifying sessions. Based on his starting positions, naturally, the goals for the races revolve around accumulating as many points as possible and, with that, climbing the championship standings.
“I’m very excited for the races here in Berlin. Our car has improved over the rounds, showing itself to be a bit faster in qualifying and, above all, more reliable with energy management during the races. Despite not having achieved a good result in the last stage, we have been on an upward curve throughout the year with good results in Diriyah, Misano and Tokyo. Due to the characteristics of the new layout, the two races will certainly be in that pack format where no driver will want to lead. Therefore, whoever has the best energy management strategy will have a great advantage for the final result. Another interesting point to observe this weekend is that we will have some new drivers on the grid, which will somehow give the more experienced drivers the opportunity to stand out from the grid as a whole,” said the Brazilian sponsored by MRV and BET7K.
SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE OF RIO GRANDE DO SUL
Despite living in Europe for 10 years, Sérgio has always had very strong roots in Brazil and, whenever possible, is in Belo Horizonte enjoying his leisure time with family and friends.
In view of the tragedy that has been affecting Rio Grande do Sul in recent days, the Brazilian driver has made a point of offering his solidarity. “It’s impressive what we’ve seen about the flood situation in Rio Grande do Sul. I don’t remember seeing anything like this in Brazil and I’m really shocked by the deaths of so many people, so many others homeless and, of course, all the material losses that this will cause in the near future. I have several gaucho friends and, in this moment of pain and sadness, I stand in solidarity with them and with the entire population of Rio Grande do Sul. I know that you are a strong, fighting people and that, in the future, you will come out even stronger from so much pain. I want to extend my embrace and my strength to all those who are sparing no effort to offer humanitarian aid, whether in person, with food donations or even financial donations. My family, my sponsors and I are also committed to this support chain. Next week, after our Berlin round, we will organize an auction of an important item in my career so that, with the proceeds from the fundraiser, we can help even more those who need to rebuild their lives. To everyone, my fraternal and sincere embrace.”
