The Brazilian will debut in the electric car category with six races in nine days
The region of the former Tempelhof airport in Berlin, Germany, will become the center of attention for world motorsport in the next few days. In that place there is a circuit where Formula E will make the six races that will define the winner of the 2019/2020 season.
Coming from a career completely dedicated to single-seater cars and, after obtaining the Super-License to compete even in the F1, the Brazilian driver Sérgio Sette Câmara was summoned by the North American team GEOX Dragon to occupy their # 6 car in the coming races closing the sixth season of the FE.
Sette was hired as a reserve and development driver for the team earlier this year. His first contact with the electric car category took place at the beginning of March, in Marrakesh – Turkey, when in the rookie drivers training, he managed to make a good impression, ending the day with the second best time. In the meantime, the pandemic took place, postponement / cancellation of several stages, and with that, the Championship organizers managed to get the government to release a super intensive six races in the next ten days. Thus, following strict health security protocols and without the physical presence of the public, the races will take place on the 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 12th and 13th of August.
Faced with the unique opportunity for his career, Sérgio has been working really hard recently to be ready for the races. Whether in the team simulator, at the Silverstone Autodrome complex in England, or with his fitness coach, the Brazilian devoted several hours of his time to being 100% prepared for the challenges ahead.
In the FE, the complete programming of each stage is always carried out in a single day. Thus, on each race day, the schedule consists of two free practices, the qualifying session and the race. During the course of the race, drivers have the possibility, at different times, to obtain extra power in the search for positions. The first of these is the Attack Mode – drivers drive through a specific section of the circuit to gain access to the temporary boost in the lapse of the next four minutes of competition. The other extra power situation is for the three drivers who win the Fanboost vote, made on the category’s website.
In addition to these differentials, the FE driver needs to pay attention at all times to modulate battery consumption with the power of his car. Thus, race management, combined with the technique and boldness of each competitor, can make all the difference in the final result of the races.
“The team and I worked hard at Silverstone headquarters and I feel prepared for my first races in Formula E. After my good result in Marrakesh, I am excited to start this new chapter of my career in Berlin with GEOX Dragon. I am confident that we will be able to get out of those first two races in the scoring zone ”, commented the young driver.
