McLaren test and development driver had his first track test on MCL34 today
On the afternoon of Wednesday (15th), at the Catalunya Circuit in Barcelona – Spain, the Brazilian driver Sérgio Sette Câmara had his first opportunity to climb aboard the McLaren MCL34. First, the official McLaren drivers, Carlos Sainz and Lando Noris who each had half a day of testing.
Sergio was hired as McLaren’s test and development driver last November and, since then, he has been working intensely at the team’s headquarters in Woking. He has been working together with many of McLaren’s engineers and technicians, has been learning a lot and also, he has been a key factor in the development of the car in the simulator. The good results can be seen by the considerable improvement of the team during the first five races of the season.
This week, after the fifth stage of the World Championship, the teams had two days of post-race testing at the Barcelona track. According to the teams’ particular schedules, McLaren chose to go on the track with only one car per period. Sérgio Sette was assigned to MCL34, with the number 47 on Wednesday afternoon. His list included the adaptation and control of all the car’s commands, information exchange and feedback to the engineers.
Shortly after three in the afternoon, Sergio went to the track. Under the eyes of several journalists and other teams the driver, unfortunately, could not do much. Sette was able to complete only three laps on the Catalan circuit when, due to a technical problem not yet identified, he saw his car stall at Turn 10.
“I had my first track day today with MCL34. After several days on the simulator, the experience was really cool. Unfortunately, I completed only three laps because of a technical problem in the car. I am grateful for this opportunity and will always be ready when the team needs me, “commented the racer who is currently in sixth place in the F2 World Championship.
