On the 15th round of the year, the pilot arrived in third in the streets of Nuremberg, Germany
The fifth triple round of the European F3 Championship ended on Sunday (26). The competition, one of the main categories of access to F-1, had its disputes at the Norisring street circuit in Nuremberg, Germany. Member of the Red Bull Junior Team, the Brazilian pilot Sérgio Sette Câmara (Red Bull | Petrobrás | Cemig | Mercantil do Brasil) achieved an outstanding performance and ended the round with a place on the podium of the race this Sunday.
The activities at Norisring started on Friday, with two free practice sessions. Aware of the work to be done, the pilot from Belo Horizonte and the Motopark Academy team focused on the development of the equipment and the improvement of the piloting of the pilots in the two sessions of 40 minutes each. Without the commitment of being the fastest pilot, every detail was adjusted and, with that, the pilots followed for the taking of times.
Very concentrated and with the car quite fast, Serginho managed to put into practice the work carried out in the practice sessions and, with that, he made very fast laps that granted him a seventh, a third and a fifth place for, respectively, the races of the 13th, 14th and 15th rounds.
The first two competitions were held on Saturday. In the first race, after a great start, Sette Câmara overcame four competitors in the first round and did not take long to get to the second place. With a very fast car, he followed on the heels of the leader; however, pressed by the third pilot. In the middle of the race his competitor overtook him and, in an “X”, Serginho resumed his place. On the following lap, on the same spot, the competitor overtook again the Brazilian pilot; however, a slight touch of opponent’s wing in his front tire was enough to stick this tire and, in turn, Serginho’s car went straight, impacting against another competitor, forcing him to abandon the race.
In the second race, still on Saturday, Sette Câmara was again very well. The pilot overtook a few opponents and came in third place when he was hardly hit by his teammate in the Red Bull Junior Team and ended up hitting the track’s protection wall. Serginho’s opponent was punished by the organization with the loss of five positions for the start of the race this Sunday.
PODIUM CAME IN A COMPLICATED RACE
The third and last weekend’s race was pretty tumultuous. Its outset was atypical because a problem in the electronic signal caused the race to start with the safety car. Sette Câmara, after a good restart, coming from fifth position, managed to overcome an opponent by jumping on a curve to the fourth place. After two laps, and a crash forced a new safety-car entry. On restart, Sette Câmara repeated again the first maneuver and won a new position, reaching the third place. Four valid rounds were held when, a new accident, closed the track and the race had to be red flagged. More than ten minutes passed and, when the race was restarted, Sette Câmara managed to stay well behind the top two and followed, without being threatened, until the final checkered flag.
“We had a rather interesting weekend here in Nuremberg. Our team found a very good tuning and all the cars were always among the first ones. I managed to stand out, I made good performances in both takings of times, but, unfortunately, I ended up being hit in two races on Saturday. Today, however, I made a great race and even after just 10 laps I managed to gain valid positions and achieve another podium in the season. With that, I climbed a position in the League and now I am in seventh, with 89 points, “commented the 18-year-old pilot.
