The Brazilian was the fastest also in free practice, held in the morning
The fifth round of the F2 World Championship began this Friday (21). Driving for the French team DAMS, Sérgio Sette Câmara (YOUSE | BMG | MRV | CCR | CBMM | CEMIG | GASMIG | COPASA) got the pole position on Friday afternoon after completing the qualifying lap at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France, with the time of 1m43s024.
Sergio has been very fast since the free practice, held in the morning. With the first set of tyres, the 21-year-old followed the team’s instructions and sought to give engineers technical information on the reactions of the car at different points in the circuit. Still in the practice, already with the second set of tyres, Sette Câmara left for his timed lap and, with the mark of 1’44s009 was the fastest of the session setting the considerable difference of six tenths against the second place.
Very focused, the driver and the team traced their strategies for the classification that, by the French time, began at 16:55 p.m. With asphalt temperature in the 50º and 54% humidity of the air, the session was quite troubled. Twice the cars had to return to the pits because of red flags and with that, the work of the drivers was even more difficult. Sergio, with the mark of 1m43s024 confirmed the excellent fit of his car and secured the pole position. Second-placed Guanyu Zhou (CHI) set a time three tenths slower and third, Jack Aitken (ING), was 0s377 of the best lap of the Brazilian.
“I’m very happy with achieving this pole. It is the second of my career in the F2 and, sure enough, it will be very well remembered. We started the practice by doing some tests and we managed to find a very good set that allowed me to lead the free practice and to keep going fast in the qualifying. I’d like to thank all the team members for their outstanding commitment and tomorrow we are going for the victory. The four points of the pole will be very important for the Championship. Unfortunately the time to celebrate is very short, in a few hours the engineers and I will be looking at our strategies for tomorrow’s race, “said the 21-year-old.
The first race of the weekend will be held this Saturday and, on Sunday, the track will receive the closing race of the round.
