The Brazilian driver Sérgio Sette Câmara was disqualified from the second race in Azerbaijan
The fourth stage of the F2 World Championship was held on Sunday (29th) and the Brazilian Sérgio Sette Câmara (YOUSE | Banco BMG | MRV | CCR | CEMIG | GASMIG | Usiminas) won the podium in a celebrated second place.
After the final flag, on the return lap of the drivers to the pits, the # 18 car of the Carlin team presented a problem that made it stop in the middle of the track. Without knowing exactly what had happened, Sette Câmara abandoned his car and, in a vehicle of the organization, went to the podium.
About two hours after the end of the race the Carlin team was informed that, for lack of the minimum amount of fuel, Sette Câmara’s car was disqualified from the race. According to the technical regulation of the competition, all cars are required a 0.8kg sample of fuel to be taken from the car in the post-race technical checks.
As a result, Sergio lost the 12 points he obtained in second place and dropped to third place in the Championship with 40 points, just one behind Alexander Albon. Lando Norris leads the standings with 55 points.
“Today we won an important second place and 12 very hard points for the Championship. Unfortunately, due to a mistake in the team’s calculations, we were disqualified for not having the minimum amount of fuel. It is frustrating because at the end of the championship the driver is judged by his position in the standings. No one remembers what happened in every race. The standings do not forgive and I fell to third in the Championship, with a 15-point-difference from the leader. I’m going to stay focused for the Barcelona stage, two weeks from now. There are 20 stages to the end of the Championship and our car has already proven to be very fast and reliable, “explained the Brazilian driver.
