The fourth round of the F2 World Championship was held on the famous streets of the Principality of Monaco this weekend. On the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, the fast cars of the F1 feeder category showed, once again, high technical and technological level.
After not very good results in Barcelona, the third race of the year, the Brazilian driver Sérgio Sette Câmara (YOUSE | BMG | MRV | CCR | CBMM | CEMIG | GASMIG | COPASA) arrived quite confident for this event. With the support of the DAMS team, the driver, who turned 21 last Thursday, was able to land a third and a sixth place scoring another 19 points for the Championship.
As is always the case in Monaco, the F2 schedule started on Thursday, when the free practice and qualifying session were held. Due to the characteristics of the circuit, the drivers were divided into two groups so as not to disturb each other’s turns. Sette, placed in the first group, was bold and got a good lap, but not enough for the pole-position fight. At the end of the qualifying session, he got the fifth best time, thus opening the third row of the starting grid.
The first race of the weekend happened on Friday morning. Sergio made an excellent start by jumping to third place. For 10 laps he managed to be fast and controlled an advantage of approximately one second against the competitor right behind him. In front of him, with a different tyre strategy, his opponents opened small advantage. At this stage of the race, Sérgio entered the pits for his pit stop, but, on his return to the track, he was in the fourth place. Undeterred, the driver continued with good rhythm until the end of the race and, with the disqualification of Luca Ghiotto, finished the race in third place returning to the podium of the Championship.
By the reverse grid rule, in the race on Saturday, Sette Câmara lined the # 5 car in the third row, in the sixth place. In a more conservative start than the previous day, Sergio was squeezed by two opponents in turn one and, with that, ended up falling to eighth place. As Saturday’s race did not have a mandatory pit stop and besides the difficulty inherent to this circuit, Sergio was able to overtake two opponents and crossed the finish line in the sixth place.
“Monaco was good for me. I needed to rebuild my confidence, and a weekend scoring in both races without error was ideal. The year is long and the 19 points I got today will surely help me a lot. Thanks to those who accompanied and cheered for me”, he concluded.
After the first eight stages of the Championship, Sette Câmara is in the sixth place in the standings with 52 points.
