The seventh and eighth rounds of the Formula E World Championship were held at Tempelhof airport
The Formula E World Championship, after the inaugural race in Brazil, arrived last weekend in Germany. The contests of the seventh and eighth stages of the competition marked the half of the annual calendar and, for the Brazilian Sérgio Sette Câmara, were of different emotions.
As has happened throughout the year, the program began on Friday, with the shakedown followed by the first free practice. Then, on Saturday morning, the cars returned to the Tempelhof airport in Berlin for the second practice session, qualifying and the first race.
With a car that has shown itself in good evolution curve throughout the stages, Sette Câmara managed, in the qualifying session for Saturday’s race, to evolve to the stage of duels in which only the eight best go through. This sequence, by itself, would already represent for the Brazilian driver his best starting position of the year that, after the duels, became the seventh position for the start of the race of the seventh stage.
Sérgio and the NIO 333 Racing team lined up the Brazilian driver’s car in the fourth row of the grid and left for the race. In a conservative start, in which he sought to escape the constant knocks of the category, Sergio lost a position, but managed to continue in the first pack of the race. With a bold strategy to gain positions and complete the race with as many points as possible the young man from Belo Horizonte set off on top of the opponents. Unfortunately, in one of the overtakes, he ended up bumping into the car of another competitor and, in the maneuver, the front wing of the car was stuck under the car causing Sergio to lose several positions. Car #3 still followed the track and, two laps later, when the piece had already detached from the car, Sette ended up hit, again, by another competitor and lost the chance to fight for positions ending the race in 16th place.
Irritated by the event on Saturday, Sette arrived willing to seek an expressive result on Sunday stage. However, his plans began to frustrate even in the qualifying when, under rain, he had to establish his best lap with the track too wet. Given the constant changes in condition of the track he ended up guaranteeing only in the 10th row of the grid for the start. In the race, with an equipment that did not have a good pace, Sérgio tried to stay on track, follow the guidelines of the team and finish the race in the best possible position that, like Saturday, was the 15th place.
“Naturally I am very frustrated with the conclusion of our weekend here in Germany. I got my best starting position of the year and we designed the strategy for a consistent race, where we could look for important points on Saturday. Unfortunately, after two crashes, I didn’t get a good result on Saturday. On Sunday, in turn, I had to enter the track at the time of the wettest track of the session and had to start from 19th. Leaving behind the grid the chances of a good recovery with our car are very small. I did what was possible, but it really was a race weekend to forget, “said the 24-year-old.
