Brazilian Sérgio Sette comments on the new system
After three consecutive weekends of competition as they passed through France, Austria, and England the F2 World Championship had a two-week break. During that period, however, the teams continued to work hard trying to improve their cars.
In a season where a new chassis, a new engine set, and a new electronic system were introduced, some adjustments were necessary throughout the year. Mainly the car clutch system was very criticized by some racers, which led to the FIA’s decision to authorize the rolling start in the last two races, as in F-Indy or Stock Car.
During this period, the teams’ technicians and engineers worked hard to update the system, aiming to return to the traditional starts for the next stage, in Hungary, between the 26th and 29th of this month.
In order to reassure the drivers and take the testing to the track, FIA authorized an extraordinary practice of 100 km maximum for each car. In order to prevent any other form of improvement of the teams, each vehicle was limited electronically to use only the first three gears.
Based in England, the Carlin team, which leads the Championship alongside the ART Grand Prix, chose to take their cars to the Rockingham Speedway in the north of the country. There, Sérgio Sette Câmara and Lando Norris completed the 100 km authorized for the day and, unanimously, believed that the equipment was ready again for the rest of the season.
“We were at Rockingham yesterday where we were able to test the updates of our car’s clutch system. I can say that it is really much easier to use. In my specific case, I don’t think it is a very good change since I had already managed to adapt well to the previous system and was having excellent starts. But, finally, we have to think about the collective and the best for the category. So I really believe that the problems are over and the remainder of the Championship can run smoother and with the results being defined by the performance of each racer, “commented the YOUSE| BMG Bank | MRV | CCR | CEMIG | GASMIG | Usiminas driver.
