On the first turn of the final battery the Brazilian was pushed off the track and abandoned the race
On Sunday, the 23rd, the Sarno International Kart Track, in Italy, hosted the final races of the first round of the WSK Super Master Cup. Almost 250 pilots participated in the races and the sole Brazilian representative in the KF category, the main category of international karting, was the “mineiro” Sérgio Sette Câmara (Banco Mercantil do Brasil | CEMIG | TAESA | MBR | Tear Têxtil | Lalubema | Patrus Transportes | Milplan | ART).
The official activities of this first event of Super Master Cup began on Thursday, with the time trials. Differently than Sette Câmara developed in the two races in La Conca, in the Champions Cup, this time he had a lot of work with the equipment. The difficulties were too great, especially regarding the power of his TM engine. This track was too long and had long stretches of full acceleration. So, a little lack of power of the engine, ended up generating a large difference in lap times.
As a result of this problem the ART Grand Prix team pilots and technicians spent all weekend in search of a solution that could offer to the Brazilian pilot a competitive equipment. In the time trials Serginho recorded the time of 1m07s587 getting nearly one second difference from the first place and with the 35th general position, which earned him a place in Group C for the qualifying sessions.
In these races Sette Câmara adopted the strategy of, more than anything else, finishing well the races and retrieve as many positions as possible. Within this spirit, in the three batteries he managed to recover and finished respectively in 13th, 11th and 13th. As a result he scored altogether 37 points and managed to qualify in the 26th position, thus ensuring the 13th position in the starting grid of the “B” Pre-Final.
On Sunday, the karts entered the track specifically for the Pre-Final and Final races. Serginho, after a good start, he was among the top ten, but ended up being touched and, as a result, he went down to the end of the platoon. In a recovery race and knowing that only the first 17 would qualify for the finals, he made a consistent race, overtook several opponents and, with much effort, finished in 17th place thus ensuring his participation in the final race.
The last and decisive race of the weekend was authorized shortly after. Unfortunately the participation of Serginho lasted only until the first turn. On a strong crash the pilot was thrown out of the track and, with the kart broken, he abandoned the race.
“We had here in Sarno a very bad weekend. Our kart was not competitive and a bad qualifying in the time trials took me completely from the chance of fighting in the qualifying session. We have three weeks until the next race and I sincerely hope that the team can achieve a better performance for my set”, commented the disappointed pilot.
