In the second round of F2, the Brazilian driver had problems and did not get good results

The second round of the F2 World Championship ended on Sunday morning (14). The activities took place at the Circuit de Barcelona, in Spain and involved two races, one on Saturday and another one on Sunday morning.

In his debut season in the category, Brazilian pilot Sérgio Sette Câmara (SANEPAV | TAESA | BELL) had a performance inversely proportional to his expectations. After several simulator sessions and some meetings with MP Motorsport team engineers, at the end of the first round in Bahrain, the driver and team arrived very excited for the disputes in Spain.

The track program began on Friday morning with only one free practice scheduled. Very concentrated and with every detail of the circuit well assimilated Sette Câmara completed 17 laps in this session and, with the mark of 1m30s484 was the third fastest of the track. That result, though earned only in training, encouraged the driver and the whole team showing that, above all, the work done on the setup was heading in a good direction.

The qualifiers were the second activity of the weekend. Sérgio remained confident of  good results and headed for the track. After a very successful warm up lap, Sette Câmara opened his qualifying lap and did very well. He recorded very fast times in the first and second sector of the track, but in the third sector, ended up having a setback in his “lap of the tyre” and, because of that, with the mark of 1m30s231, the Brazilian only got the14th place in the Grid for the start of the first race.

Later that Saturday, the first race was disputed. After a very good start, Sette Câmara managed to gain two positions and went for more. Boldly and mainly diverting of some accidents, the driver was gradually gaining positions. With 15 laps completed the driver was already in sixth place when the safety car’s entry changed the race’s history. A mistake in team communication caused Sette Câmara to trigger the electronic module to safety-car status prematurely, therefore losing power before its competitors and thus losing some positions. The safety car remained on the track for a few laps, and when it left, after the round of pit stops, the Brazilian returned to the track well behind and, ruining all the work done at the beginning of the race, he received the flag in the 14th position.

With renewed enthusiasm the driver returned to line up his car in the seventh row of the grid for Sunday’s race. Once again Sergio made a great start and gained two positions. However, on the third corner, trying to overtake, he ended up touching the front wing of his car against a competitor and, with that, the equipment broke. After radio talk with the team, Sérgio chose to remain on the track and continue without changing the the broken piece. However, his racing pace was very compromised and, at the end of the 26 laps, he received the flag in 15th place.

“I have nothing else to say except that I’m disappointed. We started the weekend in a great way, with the third best time in training, but since then things did not fit in. Certainly the experience of a weekend with so many problems made me grow as a driver and in the knowledge of the car, but I can not deny that I really hoped to have finished the races in the scoring zone, “explained the driver.

The F2 Championship returns to the scene in two weeks, in the Principality of Monaco, when Sette Câmara will have the first contact with the track that consecrated the idol Ayrton Senna.
