In Norisring’s street circuit, the pilot was very fast, but the beating prevent him from scoring again
This weekend, the Norisring circuit in Nuremberg, Germany, welcomed the sixth round of the European F3 Championship. The competition that marked exactly the half of the season was set in a small circuit and like all temporary tracks, it offered a very difficult overtaking.
Coming from the podium of the Spa-Francorchamps stage, the Brazilian pilot Sérgio Sette Câmara (Banco Mercantil do Brasil | Lalubema | Motopark Academy) and having never competed in Norisring, he worked intensely with the Motopark team to know the layout and together find the ideal adjustment for the car, aiming at the two time trials and the three races to come. With the 15th and the 17th positions in the free trainings, Serginho knew he could improve his marks. In the first time trial, he was stumped in his “tyre lap”, and ended up with a mark of 48s719, which granted him the 19th position for the first departure. In the second qualification, with no incidents, he got the best laps which granted him a position to drop in the 13th place in races two and three of the weekend. In the first race, contested on Saturday morning, Serginho made a good debut and continued at a strong pace in search of recovery. Unfortunately, since the track didn’t offer many overtaking points, the pilot did his best, gained some positions and received the arrival flag in the 15th position.
The race two was also disputed on Saturday. Sette Câmara managed to take a good advantage in the departure and kept gaining positions. With six complete laps he was already in the ninth position when, suddenly, a strong beat pushed him out of the track, causing him to fall to the end of the squad. The pilot still managed to recover and ended the battery in the 23rd position. On Sunday, the third and last race of the round took place. Serginho again managed to get a good position in the departure and gained two positions. The pilot, who had an excellent race rhythm, didn’t take long to overtake more contestants and get to the ninth place. At this moment, when fighting for the eighth place, he was involved in an accident with other two cars, which broke part of its car’s wing. The pilot from Minas remained in the track where, immediately, a safety car enter. Serginho used this opportunity and went to the pit to change the piece of his car. The pilot was back to the layout at the end of the squad, but with plenty of drive and determination, he set an incredible rhythm. Often he registered the fastest lap of the race, surpassed over ten opponents and received the third flag of the round in the 19th position.
“I could complain about the weekend, the hits and everything, but I think that each weekend means a new learning experience for me. I have never been in this track before, a small circuit, very different from all the others I raced in. We managed to adapt, the car was fast, but unfortunately accidents happen in races. We’re on the right track and we’re moving forward to Zandvoort, to the next stage”, commented the 17 year-old pilot.
